1. Church Building Project:
Work Trip January 15-29, 2008
First of all, thank you to all the generous donations and prayer support that were received over the previous year. We have just returned from Zambia while doing work projects. We had a group of 11 people, 7 girls and 4 guys imcluding our son Jerome which at the time was 8 months old.
Things on the list were to concrete the main sanctuary floor of the Highland Baptist Church, lay a block wall and have the girls paint some more homes in the Kalingalinga community.
We started off by purchasing meterials for the concrete which consisted of 20 tons of stone, 20 tons of river sand and 20 bags of cement. Since the trucks that delivered the supplies were not capable of dumping, we then had to push or shovel these materials off the truck which ended up beside the street. We then prepared to mix the concrete while using wheel barrows to take the materials in to the building where we then put the the river sand in a mound that was approx. 12" high, followed by 6" of stone topped by 4 bags of cement. Then came the water hose and the mixing began. This was done 4 times to get enough of concrete to pour a 5" pad over an approx. area of 40 ft x 60 ft.
After the concrete was completed we then laid 10 courses of block. We started at 6:30 in the morning and had the girls mix the mud since we did not have a mud mixer. This was done similar to that of the concrete. The wall was laid on the south side of the building which the church is hoping will only be temporary since they are not able to acquire the land next door at this time.
The girls also painted 3 homes in the Kalingalinga communiy which consisted of the members of the church. These people were really excited and had lots of emotions.
There was also a soccer tournament held in Kalingalinga again. This was truly awesome! The tournament consisted of four teams from the local area with ages ranging from 9 to 16. These kids were very anxious to receive their awards (which were team jersy's, Bibles, soccer balls and 1st nd 2nd place trophies) that they played in the pouring rain!! The local TV station was also there doing a documentary on the Covenant Minstries and Zambian Vocal Collection. This is usually one of the highlights since it is a great way to bring kids together and also teaching them the Word of God.
Thanks again to all the sponsors and please continue to pray for the Ministry and the ZVC group!
2. Orphanage, Office & Apartments:
We are looking to buy land and that will cost approximately $40,000.00. After the land is purchased we will start building the office for the ministry which will have apartments attached for the use of missionary's only while working and visiting Kalingalinga. We are also looking into building an orphanage on the same plot since we see the need is so great with homeless children and orphan's. This will likely be followed by child sponsorship.
If you wish to contribute to any of these projects please go to the donations page. Thank you for you generosity.
